Advocacy
Our advocacy efforts involve attending conferences, summits, and expos to gather information and amplify our voices. We actively engage in petitions, lobbying, and addressing issues through Consumer Advisory roles.
We’ve encouraged members to join Consumer Advisory Groups, ensuring representation across various platforms.

A few of us have undergone training to gain official recognition of our Support Group by the Cancer Council NSW – Training Sector.

Take a look at some of our achievements below.

Breastscreen Qld lowered the recommended age for free mammograms from 50 to 40

This was a significant victory for early detection of Breast Cancer within Qld. Sandra Johnston (our President) was a member of the BreastScreen Consumer Advisory Group and successfully advocated for the age of BreastScreening to be reduced from 50 to 40. This resulted in an amazing opportunity for younger women to access screening, access treatment and make decisions rather than waiting for a decade later.

Increase in McGrath Breast Cancer Nurses from 2 to 5 on the Gold Coast
We advocated for 2 and a half years with the Gold Coast University Hospital and The McGrath Foundation to increase the number of specific Breast Cancer Care Nurses and become more in line with Brisbane and The Sunshine Coast.
