Statement to Members, Volunteers and Therapy and Service Providers - 9 July 2026

RELOCATION OF 'THE HAVEN' AND THE FUTURE OF WOMEN'S CANCER SUPPORT INC.

Dear Tribe of Warriors, Survivors, Thrivers, Wonderful Volunteers and Valued Providers,

Due to the sale of the building to a developer, the charity needs to relocate 'The Haven' from its current location at Nerang. Our lease expires on 31 August 2026.

This has not been an easy decision.

While 'The Haven' is relocating, our charity, Women's Cancer Support Inc. and our support group are continuing. We are committed to ensuring our members continue to receive support through our website, social media and our current activities sponsored by the GCCC throughout the Gold Coast Northern Rivers, Logan and Scenic Rim.

This email clearly sets out our immediate and longer-term plans, and we encourage you to read it in full.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?

  • With immediate effect, 'The Haven' is permanently closed to the public and members while we undertake an audit, stocktake, pack equipment and resources, and prepare for our relocation. We will be operating on ad-hoc days and hours over the next 6 weeks until we vacate the building. Please book your appointment by

completing our Contact Form or leaving a telephone message on 0422 355 711.

  • All events and activities at 'The Haven' have been cancelled - with the exception being Wig and Headwear fittings which must be booked via the 'What's On' calendar on our website here.

  •  Our therapy and service providers will be contacted by Women's Cancer Support Inc. over the coming weeks to discuss alternative locations and arrange a suitable time to collect any personal belongings.

  • As soon as practical, our meet-ups, workshops, presentations and other services will continue to be delivered from community venues across the Gold Coast while we work towards securing a permanent home. Our free exercise classes and NIA sessions, sponsored by the GCCC, will continue across the Gold Coast, with a view to expanding. An alternative location for wigs, headwear, bras, prostheses and other practical support will be advised shortly.

  • We encourage you to log into our website and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for regular updates. A mobile app for our website is currently in development and is expected to be available within the next month or so.

  • If you have items to pick up or drop off at 'The Haven', it must be done by appointment only as we will be operating on ad-hoc days and hours over 6 weeks until we vacate the building. Please book your appointment by completing our Contact Form or leaving a telephone message on 0422 355 711.

HOW CAN YOU HELP US?

  • Firstly, please do not unsubscribe from our emails. This is how we will be informing you about future services, locations and updates.

  • We would also love the help of our tribe. We need volunteers to assist with auditing and stocktaking, packing equipment and resources, and preparing for the move. Whether you can spare an hour, a day, or donate useful resources for the move—such as packing boxes, desiccant sachets or other packing materials—we would truly appreciate your support. Please complete our Contact Form to offer help. Days and times of our working bees including weekends, will then be advised.

  • Please continue to visit our website, log in, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates. We will also hold Zoom catch-ups so we can stay connected and continue supporting one another.

  • Please be patient with our Board Members, Management Team and volunteers. They will be working tirelessly to reorganise our services, undertake audits, coordinate the relocation and pack our resources. We are stronger together, and we sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have an enquiry, please complete our Contact Form.

Finally, a personal message from our Founder and President, Sandra Johnston, OAM

When I first dreamed of creating a Cancer Wellness Centre, I never imagined the incredible community we would build together. Because of you—our wonderful tribe of members—and our amazing volunteers, therapists, peer supporters, administrators, donors, supporters and local community, we created the Gold Coast's first volunteer-run Cancer Wellness Centre: a place where every item and every service was offered with kindness and provided free to our members.

My dream has never changed—it has simply grown.

Our vision remains to create a purpose-built Cancer Wellness Centre where people of every age, every gender and every cancer diagnosis can find support, connection and hope—always free, always welcoming and always surrounded by care.

Thank you for believing in this dream and for helping make it a reality. Every hug, every cup of tea, every therapy session, every laugh, every tear and every act of kindness has helped build something truly remarkable.

This is not goodbye to 'The Haven'—it is simply 'The Haven' moving into its next chapter.

As we've always said:

“Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.”

I have every confidence that together we will build something even stronger, more sustainable and able to support even more people affected by cancer.

I look forward to walking this next chapter with our wonderful tribe. After all, 'The Haven' has never simply been a building—it has always been the people, the friendships, the kindness and the hope we have shared together.

With love and gratitude,

Sandra
